TREATMENT IN THE NeoART TRIAL
Participants in the NeoART trial will be randomly assigned to take either artesunate 200mg or matching placebo once a day for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Participants will be followed up closely for 5 years after surgery.
What is a matching placebo?
A matching placebo is a “dummy” tablet that looks like artesunate but does not contain any active medicine. The reason we are using a placebo in this study is to make sure we can make as clear an assessment as possible about the effects of artesunate. Both patients and their doctors will be ‘blinded’ to the treatment allocation, making sure that the clinical trial data is independent and as free from bias as possible.
Other medications and side effects
It is very important that participants let their doctors know of any other medications they may be taking whilst on the study treatment. Any potential side effects should be reported immediately to the clinical team.
